About decking

Composite or wood?
Composite costs more up front and gives you back the weekends you'd spend sanding and sealing. In this climate that's a real trade. Wood is warmer underfoot and cheaper to build, but budget for maintenance every couple of years. We'll price both so you're choosing with the numbers in front of you.
Do I need a permit for a deck?
In almost every case in Charleston County, yes, and on the islands there's usually architectural review on top of it. We handle the submissions and the inspections.
Can you replace just the deck boards and keep the frame?
Sometimes, and it's a good saving when the frame is sound. But we'll open it up and check the joists, ledger and flashing first. Putting new boards on a failing frame is money spent twice.
